In addition to its rich cultural and historical heritage, the City of Solin, as the cradle of Croatian history, offers a wealth of cultural content, through various cultural associations and institutions. Culture is present in every corner of this city, and if, after visiting our sights, you have decided to spend your time in Solin’s cultural facilities, we recommend visiting our richly-stocked library, interesting exhibitions, the Tusculum Museum or learning more about the Antique Souvenir Workshop.
Public institution in culture of Zvonimir
The public institution was founded in 1991. It deals with preparation and organization of numerous cultural events, publishing and restoration of ancient ceramics, as well as the production of authentic souvenirs created on the Salona’s or ancient Croatian monumental background.
In the gallery of the Public Institution, exhibitions of renowned visual artists are continuously organized, and a dozen plays with prominent Croatian actors are played annually in the large hall (once a cinema). Public institution in culture of Zvonimir is the organizer of numerous concerts and a rich Solin cultural summer.

Tusculum Museum
Manastirine Necropolis is the best preserved, explored and maintained complex at Salona and includes a building called Tusculum. Frane Bulić ordered the construction of this building for the First Early Christianity Archaeology Conference, held in Solin and Split in 1894. The world’s most renowned scholars of early Christianity attended the conference. The building was intended as the headquarters for archaeological teams that were undertaking excavations in Solin, and also a place for recreational and scientific meetings. Bulić named the building “Tusculum” after Cicero’s villa near Rome, precisely to imitate the famous Roman politician and philosopher. It was built in the spirit of those times, with a large number of fragments installed, and a fountain was built in the garden, containing the fragments of the former bell tower of the Romanesque cathedral in Split.
Today, Tusculum mainly serves its original purpose – on the ground floor, there is a small memorial collection that serves as a reminder of the notable archaeologist and his times, while the first floor contains rooms where teams of archaeologists currently live and work, excavating and researching monuments in the Solin area.
